i sujested a full tank water change and a rinse of the sand plus .........

thanks much for all the help. we drained all the water, took the sand out and washed and washed and then washed some more and... wow what a pain that was. Anyway, sand is back in the tank and fresh water. Looks much better, basically clear. Time to get it up and ready for a ray. All I can say is that once you think you've washed the sand enough keep going.

over summer i made a planted tank with sand and wood it took 24 to 48 hours for my water to clear now its crystal clear
