I finally found the terra cotta tile I needed. I picked this color because it was the closest color I could find to red spectra quartz garnet sand.

I spent a few hours on the weekend cutting the tiles to fit my tank. I think the color is pretty close to the sand. Here is a pic of the finished product. I'll post more when the bichirs color up. Lets hear some positive feedback. Yay or nay?

Looks good! Joe, could you pm me where you got this? :) It would be cool to use this for my 150g. Update your bichirs in a week. There contrast should look amazing. The photo of the sand doesn't look like garnet sand. The grain size seems too fine to be garnet.

Looks better than bare bottom, easy to keep clean and choice of colours to work with-what's not to like.
That said I am still partial to sand. I think a cool look would be tile with a dusting of contrasting sand, kinda like Hao's black bottom and red sand

Bottom line looks great in your tank!

Thank you all. Here are some waterchange pictures taken from above.

Do us a shot from further back so we can see the effect across the tank?
Did you stick them at all or just place and push fit until they wedge against the silicone tightly?

I really like the tile! Awesome job. I'm going to probably go this route in my 180 as soon as I figure out a way to remove 150 lbs of Black Diamond sand without tearing the whole tank down, or getting bit by pissed off Oscars and Pbass!
