Hello, I was at my lfs the other day and they had a red devil that was approximately 6 inches long. I wanted to see if anyone had any experience or thoughts on adding them to an established tank that has other large American cichlids in it.

My tank is 250gallons and has these fish currently in it:
2 x common pleco's (1 @ 8.5inches, 1@ 10inches)
2 x gold spot pleco's L001 ( both @ 5.5inches)
2 x synspilum (male @ 8 inches, female @ 6 inches)
1 x jaguar cichlid ( @ 8.5 inches)
1 x Texas cichlid (@ 6.5 inches)
1 x jack Dempsey (@6 inches)
1 x Oscar (@ 8inches)
3 x Salomtail Catfish (Arius Graeffei) (2@ 12inches, 1@10 inches)

*i would like to make it clear that once the salmon tail catfish grow too big they will be moving into a much much larger aquarium*

The tank has sump filtration and receives weekly water changes.

I don't know about being over stocked but the only time I see amph causing problems is in big tanks like the one you have there.

its a toss up, never a way to say for sure. If you really want it, try it and watch close. For all we sknow it could work great, or go haywire. Every situation is different with cichlid,

Depends on the the red devil I had a Midas who killed everything in the tank much bigger than the fish you have. I also have a Midevil like you right now who's friendly but is a female

You have a beautiful tank and stock, but if I were you I wouldn't risk adding the RD. If you're dead set on adding another cichlid there are other options that may be better. I haven't heard of many Red Devils that play nice with others and would hate to see your nice tank harmed.

Like others said if the tank is quite, don't upset the apple cart, you might regret it.
