Adding a second filter to my 75 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'be been running Eheims for over 3 decades. In my experience they are rather optimistic with their ratings. German hobby standard and Eheim's heritage are planted, lightly stocked small community fish tanks... and then the rating might apply.

Having said that, I am a strong believer in long service intervals. If I need to clean a filter every couple of months I consider it underperforming. A true biofilter should effectively degrade biomatter, not just trap it and clog up...Just my $0.02

Actually, Eheim now publishes ranges - the 2215 is rated from 32-92 gals, the 2013 from 21-66 gals.

But honestly, what matters at the end is that it supports your specific tank, which hopefully is now the case with the addition of the 2013. jryegolds, what's in your tank? Care to share a full tank shot? We love pics here!

I tend to agree with you HarleyK (I've been using them about that long but not consistently so don't consider myself in anyway an expert). In all the talk of having 3 FX6's on a 10g guppy tank these days I kind of get lost. I think what jryegolds said about doubling it is about right for me. FWIW, on my upcoming 175 gallon I've about decided to go with 2x2075's with powerbeads for movement (but the 2262 is still calling out to me).

(*By looking at threads from HarleyK, I decided not to spend so much money on a 2080)

I agree with doubling on eheims, and I too find the bio support incredible but the water clarity not so stellar. I was running a 2028 on an 80 gallon. Now, half of the fish are in a 110 tall that is filtered by the 2028, a 2217, and a large powerhead.

The same 80 gallon had a Marineland C360 heavily overstocked and it kept up, contrare to Marineland lowering the C360's load to "up to 80 gallons".

AquaClear forever. Of all my filters, an AquaClear polishes the water no matter WHAT. I even had an AC70 on the 110 by itself (after i rigged up a huuge intake extension) and to my surprise it kept the water great, bio and mech.

Fishkeeping is my cocaine.

an issue with ACs is having to place tanks so far away from the walls to use that HOB. it starts eating up space when you have a tank on every side of a room ;-)
I really wish eheim would increase pump power on the 2217 !

Here are some pics and a video:

I don't go crazy about water clarity as long as my parameters are in check. My piranhas have a thing for swimming into the circulation pump and knocking it off the wall, kicking up all the sand in my tank and making it look like crap. They also are quite fond of destroying just about any thing I put in there which is why I upgrade to the titanium heater.

Pics of my tank before my piranhas were big enough to tear it apart:

Thanks for the pics, those are nice Ps. All the best with your Eheims. Can't beat the Classic line

Read the sticky on plant only filtration. I use pothos in addition to my sump and I'm impressed with the results. It's so easy to maintain and a lot cheaper than buying another filter.

This man knows the power of pothos :)
