Hello all--
I have gone Pacu crazy. I feel the need for yet another Pacu! So far, I have two in my 1,000 gallon pond, plus an RTC. I don't have room, right? I mean, I have room NOW... but what about in year? I don't think I have room, but would love some advice from those who keep larger pacu in ponds, and how many you have. We run several pumps that total about 4,000 gallons per hour through a filter that is part of the pond itself. I think we have room in the breaker box for another breaker, which would allow me to run about three more pumps, if necessary. I say me, because the husband is against it. There is around 7 x 1 x 3 feet of filter pads/plastic spaghetti/filter media stuff in the filter. Amm. and Nitrite zero, Nitrate 15. I wait until Nitrates go up to 30 or so, and do a gravel vac/water change, and it takes about a week or a week and half for them to rise to that level. I do a vaccuum, and it goes to 10 or 15. But that's now... who the heck knows, later? So, what do those of you who keep Pacu think? Let me know! And, by the way, I do feed about every other day, so it's not as much as some of you might feed. Thanks!

Haha that's how most of my animals come to me... my husband's tired of that excuse! But, no, really, we've decided to wait a year. Then, after we've done all of the pump upgrades to get us to 10,000 gallons per hour, and if we're not seeing problems, we might do it. I do really want another one... and it would certainly be a rescue, as that's how they come, usually, if you need a big one. The best way, really. Thanks for your response.

I was also tempted to get a 12" pacu for free but my biggest tank is only 320g and it already has 3 pbass and 2 motoro rays. I had to hold myself back.

Yeah I wouldn't risk it in that tank. But it's so much harder in the pond! A thousand gallons or so, and the fish are all so small right now (22 inch RTC, 18 inch Pacu, 13 inch Pacu) that it looks empty. That's why we're waiting a year. Because it may not look so empty then! I have to learn to be happy with the fish that I have... or so my husband says. I really am trying to learn. But my fish could use some friends!

I think your okay adding another pacu. I started off with 2 pacu and then my wife adopted a 3rd one. My wife saw this big pacu just swimming around in this pet store and this pacu is about 15 inches long. So, we adopted him. The store owner said he was in the store for around 3 months and nobody wants him because he is large. Well, I know he is not done growing yet (Lol). My wife and I love pacu and we are getting ready to move our pacu down stairs for everybody to see. We have the pacu in our bedroom and we would like to bring them down stairs now. I am now in search of a Serrasalmus Rhombeus (Black Piranha) for my other tank. Yes, the piranha is going to be in a separate tank with no other fish. Good luck with your pacu.

I have a beautiful 13 inch Red bellied Pacu that i need to get rid of soon if i cant find a bigger tank! Check my gallery.. Im located in Mclean VA

The whole pond is inside, so we don't have an issue with the weather.

He's a cutie, that's for sure. I'll speak with my husband about him -- it's a little earlier than we had planned to add another. If you find yourself in dire straits with the little guy, you can take him to Animal Jungle in Virginia Beach. I know it's probably quite a trip for you, but they'll take him, for sure.
