Adding another Pacu?... But I really want to!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hey if you want to rescue a pacu, i have one that has out grown my tank and i don't have the money to upgrade right now. hes thirteen maybe fourteen inches and is tame but when it comes down to the nit-pickin he can hold his own. my oscar got real mouthy LOL and the pacu came out victorious with 3 very minor scrapes and the pacu almost killed the oscar. but he only does this when the oscar freaks him out. ife seen your thread about your huge tank and think he would be a very happy little pacu (i use the term "little" very loosely LOL) i have pics in my album

Umm... you're kind of in Wyoming! I don't make it out that way very much. I hear there is a Monster Fish Rescue that helps with stuff like this, though. You could search it out here on MFK to find the website.

Check the indoor pond section... I just posted some youtube vids.

Okay, first off you have more than enough room I saw your indoor pond video, I have a 1,000 Gallon Pond myself, but mine's outdoor this is what I have in it at the moment I have this in mine. You can get about 12 more fish in there easy.

JAGUAR CICHLID 4
REDBELLY PACU 3
RED DEVIL CICHLID 3
TIGER OSCAR 2
COMMON PLECOS 2
FLORIDA GAR 1
SILVER AROWANA 1
AMORED CATFISH 1
RED OSCAR 1
RED TIGER OSCAR 1
GREEN TERROR 1
TEXAS CICHLID 1
RHINO PLECO 1
& a few more I can't remember off the top of my head right now, I have about 35 fish in there & their doing just fine, plenty of room to move around and their all about full grow for their species.

maybe you should try a black pacu with the other two ?

Haha that's how most of my animals come to me... my husband's tired of that excuse! But, no, really, we've decided to wait a year. Then, after we've done all of the pump upgrades to get us to 10,000 gallons per hour, and if we're not seeing problems, we might do it. I do really want another one... and it would certainly be a rescue, as that's how they come, usually, if you need a big one. The best way, really. Thanks for your response.
nice to meet someone else who has a big heart for pacus... they are the ultimate fish in personality... just a happy camper...

what a great pond........

I'm not sure how to see if ztardivo has come back since he offered me his Pacu (low post count). :( PM'd you, ztardivo! My husband and I have discussed it, and we'd be willing to take your little guy if you'd be willing to drop him off with us. Hope to hear from you.

I just get worried that after my guys grow, I'll start to see that it isn't big enough, and I don't want to be in the position of having to find new homes for my 'rescues'! (Not really a rescue if you have to rehome them, too.) I have contacted someone who offered me his Pacu through this thread, though. And then it will be a long time, if at all, if I add anyone else. I love the mix you have in your pond, though. It sounds great. Also, as I said, we're working on getting up to 10x volume filtration, and I'll feel safer with stocking after that.
