Hello I just received a oscar about two inches from a guy who had to get rid of him. I want to put it with my bigger oscars and my black belts and I want to know what the best way to go with it is. I have five black belts and the smaller ones are his size and the other two are about four inches. I have one oscar 6.5 inches one that is 5 inches and one that is about 4.5. How should I go about adding him

what size tank is this?

It's a 55 but I do thirty percent water changes every day. It has two filter on it one canister and one fluval aqua clear. I am upgrading to a 280 in September that will have a 55 gallon dump and a fluxal fx6

Gonna be a big risk adding such a small oscar to such a crammed tank. I personally wouldn't be risking it. Hopefully that 280 comes sooner rather than later.

Do you have any advice on what I could do to make sure he is in there fine until I get the bigger aquarium

Maybe have some lengths of pvc pipe in the tank that the bigger oscars and black belts can't get into.

The other fish may be fine with him. But I'd definitely be monitoring the situation very closely as you largest I may view him as food.

This probably won't work.
I don't think it's going to work in a 280 either.
Black belts are one of the most aggressive veija. As they mature I don't think the oscars are in for a good time.

You never know. It may work if the new fish is smaller than and post no threat to the existing tankmates. Introducing a fish of similar size will more likely trigger a tug of war to re arrange the pecking order. Do you have hiding places for the new fish, if not, provide temporary hiding places. Watch carefully and ready to intervene if it doesn't work out. I do this all the time by introducing grow outs to my established show tanks when they get big enough to withstand bully, yet not too big to post hierarchy threat. But I usually introduce multiple fish, not a single fish to risk being the only target.
