I had a though, that if I added the water from the fish store, and only the fish that came from that tank for the first week, it would not only jumpstart the cycle, but also in the week given allow for any possible problems brought forth from the fish store tanks to be filtered out/dealt with naturally.

Is this correct, or is this a bad idea?

just ask for used filter floss.

lfs water could be gross

people say you should always quarantine your fish prior to putting them into your tank, this is bc of possible parasites etc.

adding water already contaminated would exacerbate the issue

I don't think fish diseases can be transmitted to plants

Actually considering the likely nutrient levels in a LFS tank, it would probably be decent fertilizer, lol.

It will help you cycle faster since the first couple of weeks in a cycle usually consists of raising your amonia levels high enough for beneficial bacteria to grow, however no actual beneficial bacteria will be transferred. The biggest downfall is that you will also be transferring the disease and parasites
