I agree with 3dees here. I won't use any water or media from a LSF. Cycling your tank yourself is always the best option IMO. It may take a bit longer, but it is a lot safer

Actually considering the likely nutrient levels in a LFS tank, it would probably be decent fertilizer, lol.

hahahah this is true I had frogs once and the plants in their water were huge and grew super fast:D

do you have another aquarium you could use an old filter cartridge/media what ever.

if not I see a potential business for us fish keepers selling our old filter media.
my fish have never been sick and my water is crystal clear even after I whent on vacation for a month cause I usually clean once a week or more :headbang2

what do you say if you give me five bucks ill send you a filter bag saturated with crap:ROFL:

Gravel works just a well a filter media

hey your loss. Fish tank water is loaded with nitrogen (nitrate/ammonia) and other nuitrients plants need. Basically it's water that already has fertilizer in it. With the amount of bioload in some of those LFS tanks it's probably great for plants.

Just don't put it in your tank

gravel from an established tank can help tremendously it's what i used to seed my sump when i was cycling my tank.
