alright, so i just rinse the crap out of the sand, take and the rocks and old gravel out of my tank and do a quick gravel vaccuming.
should i take my potted plants out?

and then just pour the sand in?

how much should i use for a 55 gal?

is there a such thing as black pool filter sand lol?

i say a 50lb of pool filter sand is good enough.

could you please give me a link to the sand, i cant find it

and in a completely unrelated question, would i be able to grow plants in a 10 g with UG filter and CC substrate?

here is a link for carib sea black tahitian moon sand http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753227
I was gonna put this down but they only had 20 lbs...not enough for a 75g so I went with sugar sized aragonite (oolitic sand) it is off white and looks fantastic. if you look at the pics I posted of my eels you can see the sand I use and the good thing about it is that it isnt too light so when the fish kick it up it doesnt go flying everywhere

I swiched all my tanks over to sand from gravel with the fish in the tanks and it didn't harm them at all. You do have to rinse the sand very well though. I used play sand in most of the tanks, but used a buffered sand in my african cichlid tank. The play sand was a mess though, and have heard that pool filter sand is a lot cleaner.

I agree with Mike, I am not a fan of UG filters, I have not used them in over 13 years and have always had good luck without them.

Dont forget to turn your filters off when adding sand! If you dont it will get ugly, real fast.
