First off sweet DIY!

The pvc won't have any benefit imo, try pot scrubbies, they are cheap and will house a lot of bb for cheap, I always go for api chem stars when it comes to good bio.

Also, nice tank, its huge! Some pothos would make that bad boy perfect and they could even grow in the DIY filter tower.

Thanks bro ! It was doing around 200 gph but i cut the pvc half an inch and it when up to 500+ ;)
I bought this at a 99 cent store uploadfromtaptalk1352655535052.jpg
But i ask at a lfs andthey said they will not work...

So far i have spent no more that 50 bucks ..

Lfs said what won't work? Beneficial bacteria will grow on almost any surface that's why ceramic or chem stars are ideal because they can colonize the bb and house it safetly.

That's because it's their job to sell you bio balls and ceramic media at outrageous prices. The plastic scrubbies have like 10x the surface area of bio balls. There was a guy on here a while ago that was selling them in bulk, but I don't think he does any more. Scrubbies actually make better use of the space in your sump than conventional media.

Don't run carbon with plants. Pulls the CO2 out of the water, and then plants want it to breathe.
