nice! awesome explanation! will get right to it.. but theres a little problem, i dont know how to set it up... i dont want to go down to my local fish shops and they'll start telling me get this, get that and in fact i dont need them.. what should i need, or where should i see to get the right and good way to set the gravel up?
lol a substarte is needed to help break down particles. a powerhead helps circulate doesnt matter which angle. dont add additives that u dont have to they are all a money grabber. u wont notice particles of anything as long as u have a substrate to help break everything down so when it circulates it will go through your filter. if you chose not to have substarte then add a small pump the the end of your filter to help it have extra sucking power lol
Not getting your reasoning there brother.
What you posted sounds like if the poop is hidden in the gravel, that is a good thing?
Tell me you just got your meaning and words used messed up.

those are really big fish for a 220 gallon tank.. i think you're overstocked due to catfish and that is why you are getting so much poop. the barebottom will definitely help you keep it clean... just siphon it out. putting gravel in will just lead to a lot of poop accumulating in gravel and ammonia readings. thats what happened with my pond and it's liner folds.
its a 225 gallon tank. is it really over populated ? what is barebottom will definitely help you keep it clean? so you are saying i should Siphon the poop out, it will be like a daily job? or the set up of my piping wrong? as in my whole tank set up.. it should be able to do its job with a sump tank filtration right?
Get a powerhead, attach a spraybar and position the spraybar at the right bottom size of the tank, blowing across the tank bottom.
This would help agitate the gunk. keeping it in the water column until your sump picks it up.
Forget about the BacterLife Friendly Bacteria. Its just some Cycle in a bottle that doesn't solve the problem
You are not overstocked at the moment, but you will soon be very, very overstocked (when they grow). Two aros, two RTCs, and cichla (and dats?) in a 225 is far too much.
