Adding salt to a new fw aquarium?

I onli used salts when fish is ill or for washing new tank....

as for the gill function yes it helps oxygen to pass over the gill membranes... I suggest people use it for ammonia and nitrite problems since these inhibit the oxygen from passing into the gills... also use one tsp per gallon (3 tsp in a tbsp and 48 tsp in a cup...)

just use normal aquarium salt that u buy from the lfs will do. safer i think.
