Adding salt to my fresh water tank???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Adding salt to the aquarium is definately a plus. The fish show brighter colors, more resiliant, and are more active.

You have to be careful though, because it won't evaporate out, and if you continue to add more, you could increase the salinity and possibly kill your fish. Only add it durin water changes if you do add it. I highly recommend it though..have it in all my tankz...:D

I'm flabbergasted by the number of fishkeepers who think that salt belongs in FW aquaria as a regular/normal water additive, that they can some how improve on many millenia of evolutionary selection, that by adding a substance foriegn (for all practical purposes) to FW they are improving on mother nature and benefiting their fish.
All the so called benefits are warped misunderstandings/misinformation related to the real benefits when it is used as a remedy for actual problems.
Relieves stress
Gill function
Osmoregulation
Resilience to disease/parasites
Increased slimecoat production

Some folks around here need to do their research.

Almost (not quite) as bad as a Moderator on another site's forums claiming that ICH is "...ever present in a established aquarium...." :screwy:

The misinformation/bad fish lore just keeps rolling along disseminated by many who should know better IMO.:irked:
