So I'm thinking of adding a few RT Tats into my Armatus tank. My armatus is about 6" and he looks so bored. My LFS says he's getting some 5"-6" for $50 and some 8"-9" for $80. Which one should I get? I was thinking of getting 3 of them.
A little more 411 on my Armatus. I've had him for a little over a month. He has grown about 1.5" in that time period. He's very mellow and likes to hang out with my Tigrinus. Still eating a rotation of gut-loaded guppy, goldfish. and rosie red feeders. He also likes watching sunsets and korean dramas.
Don't even bother buying them unless you plan on moving them later. Your arm might be really mellow now but just wait. Your arm is going to grow ruffly an inch or more a month while the tats will grow an inch in like two or more months. I mean the tats will be ok for now but only for a few months. There are a few people keeping them together on this site but there tank look mighty large and there fish are still around the 10 inch mark or so. I haven't seen any large arms with large tats before but if it would work that would be a very cool tank.
An unbroken Armatus cohabbing with Tats? Good recipe for a timebomb tank. Enjoy everyday it lasts cause it might explode the next day. I wouldn't do it for the Tat's sake. If you want more Hydros why not get more Armatus? If your tanks big enough for one its big enough for a shoal.
I have an Armatus in with two tats and the bigger the armatus gets the more signs of aggression it shows. They are all around 10" but when I got them the tats were about 7" and the armatus was about 3" and the closer he got in size to the tats the worse he got so now I have the armatus in a 135 away from the tats because I didn't want to see it kill them. But that being said you never know because some things work for some people that don't work with others. Good luck.
I guess I'll have to consider it more. I just blew a lot of my fish money on Viking playoff tickets. Hopefully they'll get to play and beat the Packers.
No one has ever had long term success housing Tats and Armatus together.
I'd definetly get something in with him ASAP though. If you plan on ever housing it with other fish you should break it from live food immediately and always have other fish in with it. Feeders and housing it solo is a recipe for disaster if you plan on cohabbing it with other fish.
