@MPGI am new to this...I thought the more filtration the better...I'm not sure about dead spots...but they don't seem to like one of the powerheads...every morning it is shoved in the corner of the tank.

more filter is better, don't think the return current of your HOBs and power heads are strong enough to blow your fish away. if they are being blown away then you might want to change something.

Size has nothing to do with it. At the very least they'd have to be 12-18 months old.

yeah.size hasnt.maturity has.
theoritically the fish are old enough to breed. but they just dont look mature enough to me at least.
but then maybe im wrong.lets wait and see...:)

Well if he doesn't have any true dead spots his fish will be really stressed. Imagine trying to sleep while fighting current.

To find a deadspot, tie a coin (anything really) to a fishing line and drop it in. If the coin is motionless you have a deadspot. If you can't find any, reposition your powerheads until you can create one.

When mine were showing signs of breeding, you'll usually see 2 of them pair up and do some sort of aquatic dance. They swim and rub up against each other. They'll also protect a certain area of the tank. And they fan away at the substrate making a small pit. Usually one of my Ps will stay there the whole time and never leave. She/he will ocasionally swim around and come straight back.

Another thing may be that if you lower the temperature thier agression does reduce. Chasing around just may be normal afterall; fighting for dominance, territory or just for fun.

Yes when you add to an existing shoal, a good method is to remove and plants/decorations and about an hour after you've fed them add in the new piranhas. Take a net or something and chase them all into the same corner and then rescape your aquarium. It helps with territories and such.
