Just purchased a yellow lab, a rope fish, and a spotted puffer what an awesome addition to the aqurium. Lol I had no idea the rope fish was so peaceful..i figured he would have statred a brawk with my senegal birchir whom is smaller....

^ About your puffer... if you mean you bought a Green Spotted Puffer, then just so you know, it will require pretty much full marine conditions as it gets older... not to mention they are mean as hell and will probably take out a few of your other fish in the process...

Nice pick ups. Good luck.

:nilly:well for the mean time the "GSP" has plenty of gold baby snails to feed on, and besides the fish that I have in their will take on fishes 3 times their size..

thanks smitty....:grinno::grinno:

thank you for the info...but when you say "full marine conditions" your saying he will have to go into a saltwater tank..

^ unfortunately yes, thats exactly what i mean... he'll have to be transitioned / acclimated slowly from freshwater to saltwater as he gets older if you plan on keeping him....

Otherwise, if you keep him in straight up freshwater don't expect him to live for longer than maybe a year if your lucky...

was not aware of this fact...even if u consider the size of the tank and the cleanliness??

and how would one go about the transition???..do you just one day go ahead and dump him in saltwater or is there a process...You got me intrigued to know....

Actually I have read that acclimation for the puffer itself is fairly easy, as normal acclimation might go. Drip for a few hours salt water into a bucket with the puffer.

The slow acclimation is generally taking the bacteria from fresh to brackish to marine, as it is the bacteria that will perish not the puffer.

The puffers are relatively hardy.
