fish can go weeks without food, can the front fit in its mouth?

Yeah I was just about to say that. I'm gonna be gone for 3.5 weeks over Chinese New Year!

a few times already i have left my fish for over a week and they were fine. just feed them a little bit when you get back.

I just had a buddy fish sit over thanksgiving, he didn't "listen" to my instructions, I came home to a reeking tank full of waterlogged rotting pellets, I was ticked. I suggest demonstrating everything to the fish sitter, then have him do it with you there the first time and also write everything down.

I even make sure to have (my normal fish sitter) know how to check temp, make sure the filters are working, what to do in an emergency, etc. )

It seems to be my experience that if you just tell someone what to do and then leave for your trip, they get there to feed and forget everything you told them!

I have found it best to try to get the same person to always do it because they learn more and more each time. Leave you cell # by the fish tank!!

I'd just feed them good and do a water change before I left. They should be fine for a week. Hide all foods so no one else can foul your water! Just have your pal check to see if everythings working, and you're good to go.

Not sure how big your Aro is but mine is 22-23" and I only feed him 2-3 times a week. If I'm going to be gone for a week I feed them daily for several days and stuff them before I leave.

Never had a problem. I love big fish, much easier to take care of don't have to worry about someone else killing my fish.

Matter of fact I was gone from November 17-24th with no issues at all.

I to will be gone for a week over christmas. What I am doing is feeding my arrows and catfish a lot over the past couple days and will do it up until the day before I leave and than I will do a good water change and take the water temp to 75 degrees and leave the lights out but open the blinds so they will have some sort of night and day. This has worked several times in the past and whoever comes to feed the cats and bird just have them check the filters and make sure there are no floaters.

Do a massive water change just before you leave and get your friend to feed it lightly (once per week). These are fish that can go a month without food (depending on size). The less you feed them the less polluted the water will get. If you are only gonna be gone for a week then you could feed once before leaving and not worry, I havnt fed my silver for about a week and it hasnt even started to look skinny (no Im not trying to torture it Im trying to give my knife enough a chance to catch up to it as far as size goes so Im barely feeding the arro and power-feeding the knife)
