ok so I'm running couple of fx5 on one tank lol (selfish) and i need to know if anyone is running a external UV sterilizer on there fx5?
meaning cutting the tube that leave the canister back to the tank. ALso is the movement of water traveling to fast for the UV its self to be able to sterilize it.

the product i will be purchasing if its possible is

*Lifegard 40 Watt UV Sterilizer

P.S yes i know 40watts is mad over kill but hey we are all hobbyist and want the best.

thanks in advance.

fyi this is for all my discus project.

The flow rate is to high on the fx for the uv to be effective, i have 4 fx5s on mrpy tank and i threw the uv on an old lower gph enhiem canister.

Sent from my GT-P7510 using MonsterAquariaNetwork App

What's the flow rate of a fx5?

thanks guy but was worth the try on fx5 lol darn it!
and i highly doubt a submersible uv will even make a impact...

we'll seems like I'm gonna be parting out all my fx5 soon just to run a sump...

flow rate gph i believe it is just over 600gph...

hmmm trying use my brain to maybe creating a new and modify it to one of my spray bar (pvc) maybe drill alote less holes so the flow threw it is not to great and bypassing it there.

good idea?

I've used a turbo twist 12 with my fx5/s. but you are going to have to by new hoses for the outlet side of the fx5s hose. I did this by using a "t" connector and a ball valve to control the flow that passes over the uv. But I got rid of the "t" connector and ran it straight.

but would a 40w uv make a different tho due to the fact its longer and more watts?so water has to travel a few more inches.

not really trying to play wit the valves lol.

thanks guys!

At 600gph running through a standard 2" body 40W UV, you get a dose of 24.5 mJ/cm^2. Ideally you want 50-60mJ/cm^2. So the guy's are correct....too fast. Bypass half the flow by installing a tee/valve and you'll be good.
