advice needed for 600 gallon beginner

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no the tank and stand are both the same width but the inner dimension in the center is only 12" due to the two 6" support beams in the front and the back

so, scrubbies in the sump and fx5's to pick up the slack of bio filtration only?

the only other thing i can think of is to make a 8x1x2 plexiglass sump from scratch and build it in the stand.

so why would two seperate compartments with scrubbies draining into one compartment with only equipment not work?

Its very hard to connect the two containters. Not worth the extra work and complications you will run into. I would say get the biggest sump in there you possibly can. Them make up for the filtration with the two fx5s. That would be perfect filtration for your tank.

Have you thought of rebuilding the stand out of 2"x2" 1/4 steel. That way you could fit at least a 18" wide sump under it. You could then get a standard wet dry for your size tank and run it off one over flow and put a Fuge on the other over flow. the two could be connected with some basic plumbing.

i did think about rebuilding it, but it has a nice fake marble outside, and i have a small living room as it is, id rather not take up any more space than i already am. although i do have an idea, (another bad drawing unfortunatelly) i hope this makes sense.

Im thinking of utilizing all the space on the right on the left and in the center limiting it to about 12" wide and high. vs the two columns on the right and left were it would be 40" long, 22" high or so and 18" wide. the only downside i can see is id have to build each of the three pieces seperately in the actual sump between the support pillars and then cement/weld/? (whatever the right term is) the three together.

other than i know it might be $ and a big pain... any other issues?
