Hello everyone, I have a 55 gal that I have recently set up, its going to be a planted community tank. I have 3 Serpae tetras, 3 German rams, and a Pictus cat currently in the tank. I want to know if I could add a Severum to the tank, will he be compatible, will it eat the rams or the plants? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like a nice set up. I would add another 6 tetras, you might get a pair out of the three Rams although the pictus will make sure none of the fry survive if you are lucky enough to get a pair of Rams. OK, IMO I wouldn't add a severum most will destroy your plants, I say most because I have one that doesn't but all others I had did. I think with the size fish you have a Severum would upset the look of the tank and some can be nasty. Why not get 3 Angel fish or Discus, I think that would look really nice.

Thank you. The Idea is to add a "centerpiece" to the tank, but if he is going to eat the plants then yea its a bad Idea. Anything else beside the discus or angels?

I'm drawing a blank, anything I think of will either dig, shread or eat the plants. Does it have to be a cichlid?

Wait til tonight, somebody may log on with a great idea I'm not thinking of. There are a lot of cichlids I don't have any experiance with that might be exactly what you're looking for. There are a lot of knoweldgeable people on here.

maybe Herotilapia Multispinosa may be gentler on your plants but i would watch them with the rams.

what about a geophagus?
pretty much all of them need to be kept in groups and so would be to much for the 55g, i second the angels or discus idea, especially the discus they have great colors and will mix in well with the peaceful look you have going,
