I'm currently in the process of cycling a 55g corner tank. I'm planning on picking up an electric blue jack dempsey and a pleco (after a month or more) and was curious as to what other 1 or 2 fish I could add that would be compatible and not over-crowd the tank??? Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
thanx in advance

I currently have 4 EBJD's and a pleco. In a 65 gallon tank. i had to get rid of my Oscar and Salvini because they were in constantly being harrassed by the EBJD's. your best bet is to keep the EBJD's solo, in a 55 gallon.

i currently have 3x ebjd, 8x clown loaches, and albino polypterus, the clown loaches n albino poly r peaceful, the ebjd r peaceful themselves (except from time to time there will be argument among the ebjd)

Thanx
It's been several years since I've had cichlids (mostly oscars). I was thinking maybe 3x EBJD's and a bristlenose catfish until the EBJD's get to big then I can transfer 2 or all to my 125g tank. Have either of you had problems with your EBJD's dieing? Only reason I ask is because I have read about people having problems with small EBJD's. The ones at the LFS here are about 1.5in.

only had mine 1 week, they're still kickin, but after 1 week of prazi pro, they still have white stringy poo...

EBJD are very passive and calm cichlids, usually a salvini and an oscar would be more agressive to the EBJD's that the opposite.
I would recommend you to keep EBJD with either other EBJD's or other passive cichlids like geophagus etc etc.

I've raised several of them and this has not been my experience...

I do raise mine by themselves or with fish that offer little to no competition. This is not because I don't think they can handle it, but because I like to minimize stress as I know they are prone to parasitic infection until they reach sexual maturity.

As adults I've kept my adult strong males with a variety of adult tankmates including Severums, Oscars, (female) Salvini, (W African) Jewels, Convicts, Firemouthes, Geos... I even kept an 8" Blue male in a 125 gal with several tankmates including a 7" female Trimac... The Blue Dempsey was the boss of the tank...

I do not think we should all assume our Blue Dempseys are bruisers, but based on ample personal experience, some specimen can grow up to be just as tough as a tough standard Dempsey...

As with every species, each specimen will vary...
