Advice on my new Cat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lol, Sorry I ninja posted you. Just as you where giving me a kick in the pants I was coming to my senses and posted but a second before you. Thanks a lot Viktor for the advice, support and all too kind words.

I'm really sorry to hear about your losses. I would've been devastated but your attitude just shows your dedication and reflects on you positively as for what kind of person you are and how you approach this thing we call life. And IMHO it is you who are an unsung hero of MFK. Your passionate about the hobby, always trying to help, forever handing out sound advice and perpetually doing what you can to grow your personal knowledge base all the while remaining humble. See now you made me get all saccharine it's sickening. lol

As for Wes, I haven't contacted him for a few days since I didn't want to be a nuisance and am still unsure how I should proceed. I am thinking about picking up the other Nodosus guess I'll figure out what I should do or how to handle it when I decide about if I should get the last Nodosus. Or perhaps Wes will chime in since you tagged him and we'll work it out together.
Bummer but it comes with the territory. Sorry to hear that ,Josh, but man up, man, please! Your account has been of great value, your write-ups are of rare quality and depth, and your service to the MFK has made you an unsung hero in my book. Few know how much tinkering you do in the background for the MFK.

To give you a few examples from (only!) my last 3 weeks -

-- I've just lost one of my wels at 1.5' for no conceivable reason whatsoever in a 4500 gal;
-- I stupidly killed a 1' slobbering catfish and a 10" tig (my 4500 gal crowd did a number on them);
-- I lost a 12" temensis pbass (grew it up from 2") in the same 4500 gal 3 days after introduction to possibly indigestion;
-- I've lost 2 koi 10-year olds of great sentimental value to me, who I brought here with me from Rochester, NY...
-- Out of the blue, my 22" piraiba got ripped up in the other 4500 gal, has no skin on the rear third and almost no tail, just bones...

That's just a few weeks of the year ... So what... You pick up your snot, clean up, learn up, dust up, and move on.

I'm sure Wes, having read this thread, should send you a replacement or at least extend a store credit to you because the cause is so unclear. I am more than sure he had done everything right by this fish. But neither have you done anything wrong based on all we know... fugupuff fugupuff

Yea, it's sickening alright! :) Cut it out! It's not my snot that's not in my nose where it belongs :)

I'd not count on Wes getting back. He's been very inconsistent on it lately. Probably way too busy he is. In fact, I am sure he is. With kno4te kno4te success, it almost seems something happened in the shipping. Still a guess. Anyhow, I am not in charge of Wes' finances and inclinations. Only saying what I think :) I'd be shocked though if he didn't give you a credit or at least 50% credit.

Lol, hey you started it. :D I was just producing bubble boogers, tears and feeling sorry for myself. You're the one who got all complimenty. :D

Yeah, I'm not counting on Wes responding here either but hey you never know. Unfortunately the only thing I see that peaks my interest are the Triplophys siluroides and maybe a Chuatsi other then the Nodosus. But since I had such a bad time with the Nodosus I'm really shying away from the Siluroides since Wes even warns about having success keeping them.

You guys done with the bromance? Lol, well I've went ahead and ordered the trachy, hopefully it will arive Wednesday weather permitting.

Until it's puts some size it will be with a jaguar cat, ery sp Peru, one Sd, and 3 bichirs in the 8" range, oh possibly a jaguar cichlid lol, might give them another try. When it's puts on some more size, it will be with the curupira, hoplerythrinus, odoe, and possible larger bichirs and a sun cat, if I still have them by then. Might keep one bichir, the one with the personality inbetween the two others. Still in no rush for them to go. Need to make my way to the lfs, bring in some of the smaller manageable species possibly.

Thanks Hendre, even if not there's some other stuff I have my eye on from other vendors and my income just went up by almost double so......Nah, in all seriousness I have to get my priorities straight on the money front but I still plan to treat myself. And I am seriously thinking about finally doing all that stuff I spoke to you about with my tanks.

Sorry I totally spaced and forgot about your plans for the Trachy. Forget the Jag, what you really need is a crenicichla! :D Suncats are cool, definitely underappreciated IMO. Open water swimmers and attractive. So you've got larger Bichirs or are planning in getting some? I've always like Polys but never had luck with them. I was going to them a shot again though. Can't resist they're pretty awesome.

I already have polys, for the larger ones, I have a lap and weeksii around 13"+\- and I have an endli 16-18" which is the one I'm thinking of keeping because he has a good appetite like the lap and is active like the weeksii. Polys are pretty bullet proof ime, I've never had any issues as far as health goes with them, and back in my ignorant and irresponsible days it was one of the only fish to survive through my mistreatmeant, lol just so happens it, a mala, and a pike cichlid I had were the survivors, it was in the saxitilis group I believe, spelling maybe off haven't done research on pikes in some time. And no pikes for me, I've had some throughout out my fish keeping time, though none in the lugubris group which is probably the size I'd need now, but I don't think they'd fair well with the curu. And their shape may make him more aggressive towards them and vice versa, and I don't need a fish that he can catch try to pick a fight with him, he'll hurt them no doubt, and if they don't learn their lesson it will suck. I've looked into the atabapo I but read they get HITH easy so I strayed away, also like cincta but decided it'll get to big. And yea I like my sun cat, awesome fish, but figure the trachy can fill his niche in my tank lol, very different in behavior etc but I'm talking bioload wise, and I like the trachy more looks wise, we'll see how things pan out, I've not got a large tank to work with like many others, most will likely say my tank is cramped. Though a fts will look like there's no fish except the odoe and gold most of the time. The curu blends right in with the dw, the lap stays in the dw for the most part, sun cat swims amongst it like the others two bichirs for the most part.

I wish we had vendors over here. It's great that you have some money to spend but get life straight first before treating yourself a little. :confused:

And some DIY? Can't wait to see ;)
