so you wouldn't suggest doing a copper treatment in a QT tank? it just seems like that would be easier and the fish is still very healthy. it has under 10 little white spots and is still eating fine so i figure it could handle it.

That's what i thought, but your link mentioned copper, so i was a little confused.
Would a drip acclimation from 1.022 down to 1.009 over a couple days be suitable or should it be longer?
Also, does it need to be as low as 1.009? Some other article i read on hyposalinity said to only go as low as 1.014 or 1.012

So i gave the fish some medicated food and it looked like he "purged" some worms the next day. Its stomach is staying at a relative similar size from day to day. I have notice a couple other spots of ick though. Also there is something that looks like a huge ick spot on one of his fins. The RxP worked for me before on a a firefish but im not sure if it is helping this one. Should i try a different treatment for this or should i continue treating for a while longer?

Me and my Uncle have both keep this type of puffer. The problem is you buy them with most of their illnesses. I've kept every type of puffer except a mbu and a mappa and the stripped burrfish is the most difficult to keep alive. Good luck man. My suggestion is to give it a quick fresh water bath. Salt water ick cannot tolerate water without salt.

FW bath will only kill off the cysts on the fish--they'll go right back on once it's back in the tank. Do you have a QT? You can't hypo in your main tank, it must remain fallow for 8 weeks.

I was going to set up a 10g with the water from my main tank. are you saying it needs to cycle for 8 weeks before the fish goes in?

No, I'm saying the main tank must remain empty of all fish (no hosts) for the parasite to die off in there. How big is the Burrfish?

About 3in. the only other fish is a snowflake eel but it is not infected. It went through my first outbreak of ick with no problem so i think will be okay, unless you think otherwise.

All potential parasite hosts must be removed from the tank, into hypo. Are you sure the puffer has Crypt?
