I recommend not adding more cichlids although small from my experience apistogramma and rams require space.
Do you like the look of Columbian Blue Tetra.

Agree, those cichlids won't stay small for long, and at maturity they will require every inch of floorspace in the tank.
More tetras or species like hatchet fish will not influence footprint.

Interesting, would that be the case even with 10ft² of footprint? (5ft length, 2ft wide). I'm seeing apistos and rams in some tiny tanks on youtube.
