Can someone help me out here. I've never done saltwater and have a skimmer that came with the tank I bought. The first picture is the skimmer and the second is how I think it works.

Let me know if I am correct or if I'm way off.

Okay here is how I think it works hopefully the picture makes sense. Water on the right would go up through a tube into the skimmer, fill up the middle tube section and overflow to the main section of the skimmer. I guess I would put an airline and an airstone in the gray hole on the bottom and the bubbles would go up the main part of the skimmer into the collection cup. I am a little confused on what the air line going into the collection cup would be for. I fear I sound like an idiot but I need to learn.

If I am way off, can someone explain it to me.

Thanks YA'LL!!!!!!

Bumbin it up cause a brotha needs some help.

Nobody knows how an effen skimmer works?????

the airline from the collection cup is for the collection cup to drain, so you don't have to do it daily

the fitting that feeds in from the top is where your water goes in. the barbed fitting is where you hook an airline, this is your venturi valve

nothing goes in the bottom, this is where the water drains back out

what is a venturi valve? or what does venturi mean?

this is where air will mix in with water to create the microbubbles

as the water being pumped through the inlet, when it passes the vnturi it will draw air in through the airline, no air pump required

No way that is awesome. So I don't need to hook anything up to that piece?

Then will I need an airstone with it...or will the venturi take care of it? as far as the skimmer as a whole.

the venturi will take care of it, no air stone or air pump, you will connect an airline to that piece, with a gang valve to adjust the amount of air being pulled in to the skimmer

Thanks bob. I really appreciate it. I have a gang valve. So I think I have everything needed, and now I know how it works.

Thanks.
