Hi My hubby has deceided that he wants some fish now that I have a 100 gal Tank so I told him to get his own tank but to research his fish first well he likes these little fish Melanochromis Auratus.I looked them up and they are very aggressive but I couldnt find any thing on tank size etc. Does anyone keep them or know anymore about how to keep them Thanks Pat.:nilly:

African cichlid, best way I would say is to crowd them with other african cichlids in a tank of around 75-125 gallons with over 30 inhabitants to help curb aggression. Wouldn't handle them any differently from the way I would keep other african cichlids.

From what I have read you cant do that as they kill and eat each other. Maybe I can try a couple in the 100 and see what happen they dont go after bigger fish just their own kind . I was just wondering if anybody has any experince with them. Thanks Pat:)

Carefull with mixing multiple males and males of simiilar species. Mine gets along with peacocks, other mbunas, and some types of synodontis

Thanks that is what I wanted to know Pat.

My male will attack any other fish that enters his area. Over crowding gives more targets to spread the aggression. In my 135 I cannot get more than one male of this type in the tank. I would not suggest peacocks. They get stressed by the mbuna.

Ok thanks for the advice. Pat

I agree on the last comment about mixing them with peacocks. Also, what other fish do you have in there now, if any?
