ok, what should i look for , as in what should i make sure isn't in there when i go buy the pool filter sand?

I agree with you it is cheap....
However it will keep your water cloudy as the other people have said...
its your call... its your tank ... but remember you came for advise and it was given now the choice is yours.
i use quickrete playsand in my tank and the water in crystal clear, i had to clean it for several hours and it took about a week for the tank to clear up completely though
