I recently turned my jardini in for store credit. He was begining to become too agressive and had killed a rather expensive new fish. He was the center piece of my 150G tall.

This is what I have left
1-Gold nugget Pleco L018 aprox 5"
1-Leapard Cactus pleco L114 aprox 5"
3-Clown Loach aprox 4.5"
1-Green severum aprox 5"
1-Albino Oscar aprox 6" will problably be 7" tomorrow lol.

The Pleco's and the Loaches have to stay, the loaches are my wifes favorites.

I would love to add a nice Pike, but would even a juvenile be ok with the loaches?
My favorite Pike is the Lenticulatus.

I see us going in three possible directions 1) Another large attractive fish such as a Lent. 2) A bunch of SA Cichlids. 3) getting rid of the Oscar and Severum and going completely non aggressive with Discus.

I have an FX5
and a DIY wet/dry at about 800Gal/hour

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Get two Juvii lent's and let them grow up in there, try to make sure they are smaller then the loaches so the loaches have the opportunity to grow to large for an adult lent to try and eat. I think that would look pimp.

I'm not so sure about the lents, I have been reading that can really be aggressive. You should wait until P_P and some of the regulars here reply with their opinions though.

I have 2 red (johanna) pikes, they are much less aggressive than the lents. They would work, and I sure some others. As stated, see what the general consensus is.

I had a lent grow up in my parachromis tank (210 G) and the moment it reached 8" it became so aggressive. Non-stop chasing and torn fins on all tank mates. It was beautiful but very aggressive. My friend who's a member here had the same issue so he tried selling his too. As stated above, Johanna's might work. Same thing with Sveni's.

I said lents because he is not attached to the O's and Severums. The pleco's should be fine and the loaches are not seen as competition to a pike so they should be alright. Anything that would or could compete for food, or territory would be dead with lents.

Very happy to hear the responces so far, was expecting to hear no f'n way lol. So lents are a possibility but would have to get rid of any other fish other then bottom dwelers? With the Johannas would other cihclids be a possibilty?

Johanna's, yes, but that is still hit and miss. They seem to be pretty decent tempered, but this is always on a fish by fish basis, kinda like an O. But it would probably work if it is not alot bigger or smaller then the fish you have now.

i'd go with johanna or maybe something more rare like an xingu or tapajos or something along those lines.

Sup my man!! Glad you are interested in gettin into Crenicichla! They are a blast, and can be VERY addictive!! ;) Pikes aren't for everyone though, so don't be upset if they aren't your thing!! ;)

What are the dimensions of your tank? For most of the Lugubris group pikes you will need a tank AT LEAST 18" wide, with wider being much much better. Reason for this is that a large majority of them reach easily into the 14 to 16" range, are very thick and stocky, and need plenty of room to turn around. Crenicichla lenticulata is one of these pikes. Just keep that in mind. Depth of the tank isn't as important as WIDTH...;)

As for aggression, Taz nailed it. Pikes are so variable in their attitudes its very unpredictable. For the most part though lents. can be really aunry! Especially if they are kept with fish they KNOW they can push around. The biggest problem i see with your list is the loaches. They are slow growers, and relatively easy targets. You would have to find a pretty small lent, as they grow awefully fast compared to most cichlids! They have large mouths, elastic stomachs, and BIG EYES!! ;)

Personally, with that type of set up that you have, I would seriously wait around a bit for some Crenicichla acutirostris to become available. They are GORGEOUS, slender pikes, that have a generally mellow disposition...;). A lot of people keep them with Satanoperca and Geophagus, which is something you wouldn't generally do with other types of pikes. Just a suggestion. You might have to wait a few weeks/months, but it will definately 100% be worth the wait.
