hey, I have a 6 inch red tail gold arowana. I have been feeding mealworms since i got it about a month back and I want to start him on the hikari food sticks. I tried putting a few in but he just dosent eat them. What should I do?

oh, but i have read alot of people feeding it to their arowana on this forum. Even the packaging has a picture of an arowana on it

Try mixing in pellets with it's current food. The aro is too small to starve onto pellets right now. I'd wait until it's a foot long to force the issue by starving it.

I'd have to see it to believe it. I had a few in my lifetime, & they would take nothing but live food( & yes, I tried witholding food from them). I suppose it could happen, but I'm not buying it.

What are you talking about? I currently have 4 asian aros that eat pellets and market shrimp.

Agreed, what a load of old tosh "Fishguy"!

All 3 of my Aros are on Shrimp, fish cuts and Hikari Massivore pellets.
No live food at all.

Infact the Silver and the Jar have NEVER had live food in them, I know as I had them from babies!

it just takes time and patiance. EVERY aro i have owned ate pellets and shrimp. ALL my jars, silvers and my black. i don't starve my fish either. no need to.

Perseverance and patience. Use the feeding trick recommended in the sticky in the Cichla forum.

Mine isn't an asian aro, but it's on pellets. He also takes meats (like prawn, fillet, octopus), worms, and bugs.

Good for you. My experience was totally different. Like I said, I suppose it could happen, but I'm not buying it. Show me a video of it happening, & I'll give you your props. Until then, it's a "load old tosh", whatever the heck that is!!

There's TONS of videos of this on youtube. If it was extremely difficult to get arowanas to eat pellets, hikari and other fish food companies would not make them because nobody would buy them. Mine just started stealing the massivore delite that i am trying to feed my peacock bass.
