Currently I have 5 rbps and 1 bristle nose pleco.
The tank at the moment is 10 gallon, at least until about a month from now when I go to Big Al's and pick up a 75 gallon tank.

Since the piranhas are almost 2 inches, how long do I have until they need to be put in the next tank?

Remember I still need to cycle that 75 gallon. Btw I dont have too much decorations, just enough hiding spots for them made of rocks I formed into caves. I currently have an Emperor 400 running that I just got today, an Aquaclear mini, and Whisper 10 all running at the same time in the tank. Also the Emperor is there so that the bio wheels get some bacteria for when I use it on the 75 gallon cycling. Oh yeah and the pleco benefits too, he's 2.5 inches and he poops alot :) Lastly weekly 30% water changes are made with Prime added of course.

if the filter are already established in your 10g, you can move them to 75g as soon as you have water in the tank and water temperature up to where you want it. I wouldn't keep them in the 10g for more than a month or two at most. the sooner the better.

I would move them into the 75 gallon as soon as you get the temp stabilized. The filter from the 10 gallon already has enough bacteria to support their bioload and if you run it in the new tank with the new filter simultaneously running, the bacteria should be well established in that filter as well. So rather than running both filters in the 10 gallon for the month or two it takes the one to become established, I would run both in the 75 and let the other filter establish there.

Second that.

i'd move them a new tank yesterday. i would not be surprised if you didn't have 6 fish if you wait an entire month for the transfer

Sadly its the money issue... I get a $40 weekly allowance, soo I have to wait. I think this hobby will keep me spending it right away every week and I don't mind. :)

BTW my pleco died and I don't know why. I woke up and found him dead. The rbp did not eat any fins or anything, as there was no bite marks. Probably just the stress.

I'll for sure buy the new tank by the middle of March. Perfect timing since I can monitor it constantly, with March break and all.

How long would that take to cycle with the Emperor 400 seeding it? Should I add liquid ammonia or put hardy fish in it? Lastly, will my piranhas be okay until I finish cycling that new tank? They are very peacefull and well fed in my 10 gallon tank. Bloodworms are fed twice a day. (morning and night) There are also lots of nooks and crannies for them to be by themselves in.

Oops sorry just reread those posts. Yeah I'll do that, just move fish and everything to the new tank as soon as I get it. I think they'll be fine if I move them middle of March. Also thanks to your replies and also future replies :P

hey guys, sorry for reviving this post lol but I finally got a tank. I looked at a 75 gallon and decided I wanted somehting taller, so instead I got a 90 gallon!
$100 in kijiji/craigslist for this miracles aquarium!

SO yeah do you guys think this would be big for my filters to keep up with?
