well ive had my motoro about 2.5 yrs now and he always roams along the bottom like a vaccum cleaner when i feed my fish. he usually sucks up about 20 pieces of krill befoe hes done but this time he only ate about 3 pieces. anything i should be aware of or just give it more time? i also have had bichirs and cichlids in with him and for the most part they all grown up together. cichlids dont bothher him but the the bichirs always must have thought his tail was a worm. even though i never seen them bite him his tail is always trimmed right were his stinger is. its never bothered him before but now im starting to wander?

here is a video of them. if you notice the driftwood on the left. that is soon to be removed to give him more room.

Your ray's tail looks completely white from the video. Probably infested with fungus from your bichirs biting its tail. You should either get the ray or the bichirs out. Your tank also looks way too small, you should upgrade sometime soon.

seems something is wrong. i would check nitrates first... watch the tank w the lights off to see whats going on at night.

rays should always be moving and eating IMO

you have all the wrong tankmates for your ray!!!!

i would suggest putting your various african cichlids in a tank with the appropriate substrate and decore better suited towards keeping the african cichlids tank at a ph above 8

i would move your central americans into their own tank because they are way too aggressive for your ray.

the polypterus would go better with your africans but you may be able to get away with keeping them with your central americans.

ive never had a problem with this setup until i recently added 2 more bichirs about 2-3 months ago. im thinking of going with another 180 seeing the dimensions are best for me. the ca and afriican cichlids do well with the ray. i think its just the one of the bichirs. maybe ill do a bichir tank with a single silver arowanna. i do know the ph is diff but when the africans have been line breed so long and are kept in lfs with the same water i do believe they are use to it. i think wild or close to wild africans may have a problem but since there so use to it do you still thinkk its a problem? also are they not a rift lake cichlid which is about the same ph as ca? anyways here comes another 180. thanks for the replies.

Looks like an awfully small 2.5 year old motoro... unless thats a 3-4 foot wide tank...

what size is that tank? what is the motoros disc width?

Stunting is something that effects their internal organs as well... could be catching up with him... that would be my first guess based on no information on the tank size/filtration... But he does look very small for his age.

other than that, id check the water quality.... then start figureing out the stocking for that tank... far too many unsuitable fish in there(hence, his tail being nipped at)

its a 180 gallon and the ray is about 12-14 inches from one side of disc to other.
