Advise for first time motoro ray buyer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lots of bio media. Very deep (front to back, not height) tank 3' minimum.

No white patches on the Ray. No sunken eyes. Look for hip bones of you can see then it's to skinny. No sunken spots on the head or between eyes. Watch it eat something other than live foods. Most rays are very active and cruise and investigate what's going on in the tank.

How much this motoro go for ?

Cheap gamble motoro go for a similar price to retic I think, somewhere between $100-200 US. I call them gambles because by the time you properly treat these motoros you've got a coin flip whether it's too weak to rescue. Since the vendor is making so little on it I make assumptions about the care they receive. There are motoro variants, marbles are the most obvious but they have superspots and stuff too. These might be more properly cared for in a wc capacity because they are not expendable, or not nearly as much. I prefer to avoid the normal ones because they get big, they are hard to rehome and they are just so poorly cared for. I would suggest sourcing captive bred if possible, it really saves you so much trouble.

Very sound advice.

I've seen motoro's at big als, I haven't liked a single one, but maybe that's because I really don't like motoros. If I were you, look for a nice marble motoro, I feel like you will be happier. Honestly, I would only buy rays from a trusted breeder or importer, I personally avoid stores like big als at all cost, that's just me though. PM myself, CANAMONSTER CANAMONSTER , Lepisosteus Lepisosteus , or millerkid519 millerkid519 if you need advice about buying rays locally considering you are in our area.
