Advise for first time motoro ray buyer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don't think anyone has expressed hate as such, just sound advise.

My first rays were motoro, I thought they were great. They bred and I was thrilled with the pups. Have fond memories, but I'd never have motoro again. Too bland looking and generally get very big, too big for me especially the females.

I also would never own a motoro again , but am so glad I started out with my one , wasted effort ? Myb but am so glad I chucked 100 quid at my first Ray to learn how to keep them husbandry and what works , Am now confident to spend 3 times that on quality captive bred Ray's ,

I'm going to say what we are all thinking and want to say... H HumanBean come to the dark side...I started with blackies and am glad that I did. I find p12,p13, and p14 very hardy and although more expensive, very durable rays.

What's the saying? Once you go black You never go back?! If you're serious and committed, you might as well start where you'll eventually end up anyway..

My 50 cents

My 2 cents worth as a beginner

My first 2 Rays are a pair of wild caught hystrix.
Am not having an easy time getting them on to pellets.
With hindsight I should have maybe waited until some tank bred became available.
Would have made life a lot easier

If you're a beginner fish keeper I'd suggest doing lots of homework before taking the plunge. If you are experienced and just want to get into Rays then I still suggest taking more time to study their needs as its more than you'd expect. Make sure the tank size is truly adequate for a year or more and know that you can afford an upgrade when the time comes. I'd personally get in contact with Ken who is in Peterborough and has a litter of marble pups due any time. That truly is your best option if you want a nice looking Ray within the next few months. They're affordable and beautiful.
