I brought this little guy at about half inch and not knowing what he was. He now about 2 inches but still havent managed to find out much about him i.e. adult size, temperament etc.

If it's Laetacara I would guess L. thayeri based on your photos. A clearer, more detailed shot would help though because the acaras share a lot of similarities. Your specimen is quite pale in the photos, and thus may be lacking distinctive markings that would help identify it.

Former A. Dorsigerus, looks to be female.

Laetacara dorsigera is a different species from L. thayeri. It is smaller than L. thayeri and displays more color, including red on the underside and more blue on the scales. I don't see L. dorsigera in the OPs pics, although admitted species in this genus have similar profiles.

Looks more like L. dorsigera to me as well. L. thayeri has a backwards extension of the midlateral spot upwards to the dorsal fin at an angle that appears to be missing in the OP shots. Also, they don't have the dorsal edging that L. dorsigera do. It does look very much like a young L. dorsigera when you find them in stores before they settle down, which comparing it's colors at that time to the bright breeding colors of course wouldn't look right. Having kept both species, I'd lean L. dorsigera pending more settled in pics, but it's missing the main physical diagnostic of L. thayeri.
