Hello,

i've got a pair of A. Pulcher in my Tank and i want to know, if it is a good idea to put them together with a pair of A. Metae? Can these fish coexist without any trouble?

Greetings

I would keep them in seperate tanks, unless you have a really large aquarium.
In my exp. metae is much more aggressive than pulcher.

I think it really depends but it can work. Also it depends if the A. metae is really A.metae. Lately some fish that have been sold in a few places have been Aequidens sp. "Jennaro Herrera" which I have found to be fine with other types of cichlids ,but not really fond of other acaras. It works in a larger tank but is tricky to do in a smaller tank unless they are pretty small to start with and can grow out together. if it's jennaro herrera then it may prove a bit more difficult since IMO they are a bit more aggressive when mature than many other acaras and not as tolerant of other acaras. Could just be mine but I'd still be carefull irreguardless.

I had 1 pulcher and 1 metae in a 55 gallon and the metae was smaller and one day it snapped and wanted to kill the pulcher. Although this happened to me, I still believe that pulcher and metae generally get along together. Now when you throw in pairs of them that may breed, it elevates the aggression. If you have the right tank size I say go for it.

My Tank is 66 Gallons (250L.), the Aequidens Pulcher are pretty small (the male is about 3 inch). The Pair Metae would be from a private person, the metae male is about 5-6 inch)

The pulcher pair has acted peacefully against any other tankmates so far, even when breeding, the owner of the metae pair sais the same about them, but neither has been kept along with other cichlids.

My guess is that the Pulchers will end up as snacks come spawning time. If the sizes were the other way around I'd say no problem , but with the pulchers being so much smaller I cant see it working for long if at all.
