Not monsters but a cichlid I thoroughly enjoyed.

Nice!
I have 4 coming next week.
Those pics take away any doubt I had about their colors.

I'm glad yours weren't aggressive. Mine were brutal, especially the big males.
Were your fish aggressive only towards each other or aggressive against all tankmates? I had 7 fish packed in a 125 gallon that grew up together from about 1 inch in total length. Maybe that helped disperse the aggression. I was very surprised that there wasn’t much.

Both. When they hit sexual maturity it really ramped up between the males. I could always hear them splashing and hitting the lids as they chased one another literally out of the water. But I kept them with Heros and Geophagus, and they gladly chased and pushed the Heros around. I never saw them physically harm the Heros but it made them jumpy and irritated so I let the Aequidens go to a new home. The males were probably 8" at that time. I had a group of 6 in a 150 with a pair of Heros liberifer and some Geophagus sp. Tapajos.

Excellent information and very good to know. Thank you. I was planning on possibly adding some Heros or Mesonauta with them in their new tank but now I will just see how their aggression is after they are given a bigger space and settle in. Maybe with a larger tank, more territory to claim, their aggression will manifest? I will soon find out. Appreciate you sharing your observation. Thanks again.
