Aequidens sp. Red Saum ...Massive Male.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its a nice saum, but I don't see a significant difference between it and a gold saum. It will probably look better once you get it in your tank though.

alrighty than, cool looking F0 Gold saum it is, thank you GT for the thread.

:irked: and misleading sale lists. he made them sound like there own species.

still looks cool, but it will remain a Gold Saum when i post more of it.

looks like some that a friend of mine has that were sold to him as royal suams.... very nice though

the Deep Red Trim on the Fins is the obvious physical difference. there's other more technical data with origin area and such i'm sure but i don't know enough about the species to get into that. also if you look at any average Gold saum here you can see the much more vivid and total marking of scales (everywhere and super green) where as average saums have smaller and less amounting amount and have a light blue/green tint rather than fullout green. Not sure the size difference between Reds and Golds, but MM's wild Golds are roughly the same size. (captive grown i have not seen over 10-11".)

I guess it can be justified as a locale difference, but to call it a different species would be premature. As far as I can tell, it looks like any other green terror. We can't buy just anything the "experts" tell us, though I'm not trying to discredit Jeff Rapps.

Nice pick up, even if theres not a huge difference its still a good price and a great fish. i wouldnt be surprized if he does look abit more different as in those photos he looks abit stress and is most likely in a small holding tank. We need more pics when he comes.
just for an update,i never got a wild gold saum:( there was a mix up and only a silver saum came so i didnt pick him up either....

just got a very unfortunate email for jeff-

Hi Ed
Sorry to have to email with bad news, but the jumbo red suam
is not well. I see that he's breathing very heavily. This
is never a good sign with suams, and I won't offer false
hope of him being ok to ship at a later date.

jeff.

so unless this guy gets better, the sales a no go. so i'll probably pick up some more TGT's.

if it does get better nobody get any fancy ideas, i'm still gonna get him.:nilly:;)

Bad news, breathing hard was the first thing i spotted on my saum and he died:cry:...

if worse comes to worse you should get a wild pair of any of the 3 saums and then some TGT.i was thinking of getting some TGT but it would of cost twice as much atleast:(
