BC - I was tempted by A. sp "maracaibo" as well, but ruled it out given the OP is in Oz which has restricted import laws ... and A. sp "maracaibo" isn't on their import list as it is too 'new' to the hobby. Where as the green acara was popular back in the 70's, and the Aussies still have some cool fish down there from then that have dropped out of the hobby in North America. But that's just a hunch.

No way is it a maracaibo, 100% Female Green Terror, i'm trying to find the pics of my old drab ones before i got my nice gold saum, they were identical.

No, but it may not have been imported as such. Under a different name or as a 'contaminent' ( unknowingly mixed with other fish, the way a lot of S.A. cichlids ended up being imported in the past). OR the strain could have been in the hobby from before and thought simply to be a srain of "bue acara" --- certainly possible, that in Australia, it may not be so "new".

There are too many similarities in markings and coloration, between the fish in question and A. sp. "maracaibo" .to my eyes they look like the identicle fish. Markings and coloration don't seem to fit with A. sapayensis

Why are you guys trying to claim this guy has some how aquired a £100+ rare fish, when you 'experts' can plainly see it is a fricken Silver Saum.

Thats it, im off to find my old pictures...

The tricky part is the colors. But I see lots of difference in face/head and fin shape. I seriously doubt this is a saum or GT. Ive owned a few acaras and GT before, there is a big difference. The first pics posted make the fish look like a GT or even a maricaibo. But take a look at the older photos, IMO this fish is not a saum or GT.

yeah old photos it could have been a small GT but now in the newer pics it shows no fin edging color at all and either gold or silver saum would have defined edging tot their fins, its either some kind of acara or most likely an Acara x GT hybrid

OP - You you pm the link to the pic (instead of being attached), I can email it to Alf Stalsberg for you. He is recongized as perhaps the most knowledgable acara expert in the hobby.
