Hey,Got a question for ya. I,ve got a line on a great deal on a 120 gallon set-up. But I wanna know if I can stock it with BOTH a few african's and central american chiclids?
Mabey two JD's and one salvini as the main focus. with a few africans, such as yellow labs and such. What do you think? will it work?

K.

dude just do centrals or african alone, just because you have a big tank doesnt mean you could get away with mixing these two

Thanks, for the response. I,m gonna go for it. I'll have to put some serious thought into the landscape though. I,m thinking lots of smaller crevices for one third end of the tank for the africans to hang out in. the rest ... mabey... some drift wood ... quite open for the larger chiclids.
I'll have to research some more on african chiclid habitat.

If you are talking African Riverines like Buttis or the like I would go for it. But personally
I would not with Rift Lakes or the likes.

Some people are completely against it do to different water parameters, but I've seen it done successfully without a problem.

butti's like the tilapia's? the guys that get 16-18" and are notorious to many keepers as some of the most aggressive and tempermental fish they have owned? bad idea for those with tank mates. i personally don't like the african and SA/CA cohab idea imo but you can go for it with certain species. many though require water param's that are very different than Ca/Sa's, so be careful what you mix.

I would agree XR. I was just stating that would be the only way I would and have attempted it. But it is with great risk as I had a Butti at 8-9" that killed several larger Viejas. So I know from experience that it is not something that I would do again.
