i got myself a 4-5" african aro and the day i brought him home he hasnt ate anything i offer. from bloodworms ,shrimp, pellets, krill, flakes, and nothing. i asked the guy who i bought him from what he ate, he told me plain old hikari gold pallets and thats what i feed my fish for the past 2 years. plz help i see potential in my little guy. i dont want him to die.
i checked the parameter and its good. i add salt every 2 days cuz i think he is stress out. hes in a qurantine 20g for now until he starts to eat them off to my 30g to grow out then to the 150g.

any suggestions???

Most fish will go on a hunger strike on a new environment. Fish are not dumb, they won't starve themselves to death. Give it time and he'll give in.

If you had try everything, you're fine...just keep trying every day, and take out anything that the fish won't touch.

I had a dat that refused food for 6 weeks before giving in to krill.

My lapradei still hadn't ate anything ever since I transfered him to the 240 and that was about 4 weeks ago.

African arows (especially the young ones) are very tricky unless you use some pretty set practices in raising them. feed them live blackworms, and set up the tank with a sponge filter or smaller filter along with minimal substrate.

go to www.primitivefishes.com and look up African bonytongue for a full species account on care for the young all the way up to adults. best of luck, and be wary as they are prone to ich but can easily be cured via quick cure or other formalin based meds--

EAmericanus gave you a good clue. For practical solutions get in touch with Oddball and T1Karman. They have them and feed them...

There's no way he can die just by not eating for a few days or a week. We all use starve method to feed fish before.

There are several reasons why fish won't eat;

1. Wild caught, never had a dead food before
2. Not used to your kind of food
3. Stress in a new aquired environemnt
4. Stressed by aggression from other tankmates
5. Stressed by poor water quality

How established is your tank ?

I am sorry for your loss....I am getting the same batch next week and just ordered some blackworms just in case..
