There's no way he can die just by not eating for a few days or a week. We all use starve method to feed fish before.

There are several reasons why fish won't eat;

1. Wild caught, never had a dead food before
2. Not used to your kind of food
3. Stress in a new aquired environemnt
4. Stressed by aggression from other tankmates
5. Stressed by poor water quality

How established is your tank ?

I am sorry for your loss....I am getting the same batch next week and just ordered some blackworms just in case..

the 20g he was in has been running for around 4-5 months. i have 3 clown laoches and one small pleco. he wasnt wild and i was feeding him what the previous owner was feeding him (hikari gold and bloodworms). there was no aggression what so ever. i did a water change 2 days before i got him and every 5 days after i did a 20%-30% water change. so that only leaves me that he starved.

i have to disagree with this

african aros burn of food very fast when small they are infact filter feeders at sizes below 10inch

if you want to make your chances high of keeping them alive do buy 1 below 12inch

the one i had was 12inch and i never had any problems getting it feeding

so many people have lost small african aros below 10inch you wont be the 1st or last person to lose 1

i look forward to seeing how many you lose as you have all the answers why it died

sorry for your loss

Im with T1... this is all true ad Edwin to be honest u should not feel to bad about this... it certainly sucks but these fish are such a gamble! If u can find a 10-12"er then i suggest u try that as buy this time they ae peerfectly stable and will start to take, sinking/floating pelle, shrimp, small peices of basicly anything.... But as T1 said he always eat from day 1 for him....(is same fish)

sorry for your los

their are some great aro keepers that have tryed small african aros below 10inch and lost them

it has nothing to do with stress bad water or anything else they just need tons of small food when small to keep them alive

i found mysis blood worm and small frozen krill worked well

well ya youa re 100% correct. thanks alot for the advice and suggestions. thats to everyone who posted in this thread. thanks alot

i consider myself one of the greater aro keepers on this site as i've been keeping jars/leis/silvers for over 10 years and even i felt keeping an african aro wouldn't be a problem for me but low and behold, mine starved himself to death.

im sure others remember me posting about it last year, ill never buy another afro under 10 inches
