African Butterfly fish compatability

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think it depends on the temperament and size of the O and JD..I have a 4" butterfly with a 2" ebjd and they are doing fine.
My butterfly has never tried to jump out..and despite the many claims of them being delicate I have yet to see that from him.
I guess if your O and JD are small just give the butterfly lots of hiding places and floating plants to hide in and give it a try.
But I think when your O gets full grown the butterfly will become food.

I like the idea of putting the butterfly in the 30...maybe get a few!

my tank looks empty because i like having only a few fish but the O is maybe 5" max and the JD is around 3". both are quite lazy and the JD just sits still and looks at itself in a corner most of the time. the oscar sorta wanders around slowly but always parallel to the glass looking at me for food.

EbJDs aren't JDs in nature at all though. they aren't really even piscivores. just twice as pretty and a bit smaller too.

i think the african butterfly would do good in your 30 gallon long. just get some floating plants. ohh and with oscars i think your oscar might think its food. good luck man.

these fish are pretty hardy but if fish are niping at them constently they will jump and if they find a hole they will get threw it eventualy........ id just set up a diff tank and get 1......... ive noticed that this fish is very protective to things being in its area.......... mine got ahold of a 3" seny bichir and was carrying it around in its mouth cuz it was to big to swallow i got the bichir out and it lived........ but yea dont put this fish in with cichlids med size fish are better for this fish......
