African Butterfly Fish Eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Got them to eat crickets. Great to see them eating and all just wish the wasn't such an expensive diet lol. How often should I feed?

Still would try some floating mashed up tubifex and flakes/pellets. Good chance it'll eat it as well.

Every couple days should be fine in between feeds.

Alright thans. Already tried flakes tho and didn't take any.

They are a fan of softer water but shouldn't be pedantic. Many African fish are fairly adaptable to seasonal changes. They can be aggressive to each other but seem to ignore fish that are too big to be eaten in my experience.

Yes if it fits in its mouth the butterfly may try to eat it. They are territorial and aggressive to one another. It can be a challange to get them eating anything but crickets and cricket type foods. It has to sit on the surface of the water or come to the surface to really be considered food. Mine will eat anything that floats luckily thanks magpie magpie ! The two that I have fight any time they are near each other, and the bigger one will go out of the way to find the other one.

Yes, it seems like they would like soft, acidic water. I've read multiple sources that say it's best to have it tannin-stained, is this crucial to their health?
