African Butterfly Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Id say it would be fine, just be careful of fin nipping from the female betta... and watch the tetras just in case.. you never know hes still a predator.

Oh, and just so you know they aren't active fish at all.

they look cool, but are probably one of the most boring fish I have ever owned. Super scared of everything, inactive, prone to jump, and you hardly ever see it on the surface. Once a little bigger, it might try to eat your tetras

My angelfish would kill something like a betta, lol.

I dunno about the african butterfly fish, I'd watch it around the smaller fish since they're predators.

No, it is not fine. You have a betta and cardinal tetras in it. Obviously, the ABF will not have second thoughts attempting to swallow both fish.

I agree. It will happily consume the tetras, and possibly other fish too if it is large enough.

The betta will probably get bitten and harrased. The tetras are as good as food if they get close enough. The angels wouldn't be a problem I don't think as the abf doesn't move around much. I have mine in with two juvy clown knifes, and he's doing fine now. Also keep in mind that they are jumpers, and WILL jump through even a 1/4 inch opening that you think is too small for them to fit through (trust me from experience with these fish). They don't like prepared food too much, I've found only bloodworms are readily accepted. They also like to be kept in groups of 3 or more.

aside from the tetras and betta, angels can tend to stick close to the surface, butterfly fish are quite boisterous when it comes to any fish coming into their territory. And im sorry but i hav to agree with the others, these fish do not move or do anything unless they are being fed and even then yawwwwnnnnn!
