African Cichlid missing tail. HELP (PICS)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i've seen worse grow back and also not as bad that haven't, so only time will tell.

He's still doing ok, scales are growing back and I'm starting to see little nubs form at the end of his tail where the fin used to be. Only problem is he won't eat

I have a yellow lab that is exactly like that. He's healed though, but the tail never grew back. Swim fine, eat fine.

Hope it gets better. Did you find the culprit? I wouldn't really want to eat myself if I was a fish and I got my tail bitten off.

I had an Electric yellow that had his tail bitten off too.. Kept up salt and water changes, took a while but his tail did grow back. He was sulky for a little while but came around and began eating again. Good luck.

I had a flowerhorn that lost its ENTIRE tail clean like someone took toenail clippers and snipped it off, handy work of a Pirhana. It took 6mo. to grow back, lots of melafix and a separate tank, but it did come back.
If it does start to get rotten/infected however, dont let it suffer.

He looks stressed.

With all kidding aside, I hope he gets better. Please update us with pics as he heals.

That happen to my one inch yellow lab too. Poor thing got his whole tail chew off. He's 2 inches now and living well in my planted tank. Make sure to keep the water clean, do minimal feeding, and put something in the tank for him to hide behind and feel less stressed. Hope for a full recovery! I wouldn't put him back inside an African tank again though.
