African Cichlid Tank!

What kind of substrate would bring out their best colors?

I like a black substrate the contrast of the black/white/blue of the fronts would look awesome against the black sand/gravel.

it does but FYI the coral will raise the ph levels of the tank

i dont know if its true, but ive read that fronts prefer a dimmer tank... not blinding bright lights since they originate in deeper waters. i would go dark for the substrate and rocks..i think their color would just pop out really good against it.. plus its less stressful than blinding white sand..
