African cichlids with my EBJD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To me kind of looks like a Texas cichlid or a flowerhorn notice the pattern of the pearling and the red tail fin

Do texas cichlids have colors that bold? I wouldn't know but the first picture shows his coloring better but even that doesn't do it justice. His tail is clear just looks red in the picture. I wish I could get a better one. His fins definitely do look like a texas cichlid though.

Looks like a Blue Jack to me. I've grown out one male, 9" inches & one female, 6" inches. Both lived between 5 & 6 yrs.
Blue Jacks have the same demeanor as a standard JD, but typically are physically weaker.
I doubt that many Blue Jacks would survive long term in most African Community tanks. Mbuna have the potential to pick apart the JD and although Peacocks have a more peaceful reputation, that's relative as compared to other African Cichlids.
Successful mixed New World & African communities do exist, but are not common. Keep connected to the forum & good luck.

The longer I have him the more blue he gets so I will keep an eye on him and keep connected with the forum as he grows. Only time will tell what he is really going to look like. I will probably rehome the rest and keep the blue jack by himself. He is the most beautiful fish I have ever had and I can already tell he is very smart so I don't mind dedicating my tank to him.

There are plenty of other species that can be kept with EBJD. Big Tetras, Firemouths, maybe even XL Swordtails.
I agree, Blue Jacks are really nice looking. Post pics as things progress.
