my 265 gallon is over loaded with African Cichlids again. I'm going to be giving away as many as I can to a friend that set up a 75 gallon with FX6. Does anyone know How many can that handle?

The answer depends on the species, whether all male or a combination of male and female. Usual stocking for mixed gender is approx. 12 to 16 fish that mature at >6 inches.

About 35 depending on type, if they’re mbuna or Aulonocara then about 35

My answer is assuming it’s an all male tank btw

As mentioned by deeds, species would play an important role in stocking. With proper male to female ratios 15-20 fish could work. For all males maybe 12-15 as long as all do not resemble each other. Now some species can completely change this if they are one of the more aggressive types or one of the few dwarf types.

Sorry to say, 12-15 isn’t nearly enough in an all male 75 under 6”. One or two is almost certainly going to get singled out and killed.
25-35 is where he needs to be. That is even more important with mbuna and Tangs

Here’s my 75 with 32, it sounds like a lot but but keeping African cichlids is a completely different set of rules
