We recently bought some African Dwarf frogs. We bought one for my son's birthday and then went back a few days later and got some more because my other son loved them.
1) We have a tank just for these little guys. We have a small heater, thermometer, little "house" and white rocks. We also put some of those plants...well balls that are supposed to turn into plants on one day...in there. Is that enough?
2) Also, I am feeding them freeze dried blood worms, is that a good choice? Could the blood worms be making the tank stink, we only set it up a few days ago and it already has a unique smell.
3) The first frog we got seemed healthy. We had to get it from Walmart, not something I would normally do, the pet store had theirs quarantined. We went back a few days later we got 2 more and in the craziness of taking 3 kids to Walmart I didn't do an inspection of the frogs. When we got them home we realized that one of them has red spots on its legs which I read is a symptom of a disease. However, they also seemed aggressive the first day I brought them home and were biting each other. I don't think they were fed properly because it was when I fed them that they became aggressive. I have made sure they stay fed and warm in their temporary bowl, since then they have not attacked each other. My question is could this be a wound from the fighting or a disease? They also both appear to be shedding now, the other frog does not have any red spots. I have them in a seperate bowl to keep from contaminating the other frog, but I only got them a few days apart so if this is a disease then he is probably already contaminated. Originally, before we got the seperate frog tank, I put this little frog in with our other fish, which would mean they are now contaminated as well.
4) If this is a disease what can I do about it? Yes I can take them all back, but what about the other fish? Plus I have already gotten attached to my frogs. I read that you have to be careful because treating fish and treating frogs is different since frogs absorb medicine more than fish. What medications do I buy...what do I look for...how do I know if its a disease or bite...how do I know if they don't feel well? I am real new at this obviously.:nilly:

Ok, I posted 3 pictures of my little frogs. They aren't the best pictures, i can't seem to catch it while the spots are showing, the container i have them in isn't see through. The pictures i did take make the legs just look red, she spots don't show up real well.

Well I don't think you need to worry about the N cycle since it won't have time to start. If these frogs are like the bigger ones, NO filter is to be used and a 90% water change must be done every few days. Always use water that has sit for atleast 24H.

Not sure about the redspots. I've got 6 in a 5.5 gal tank in the kitchen. Tank has a small heater (temp in the mid 70's) and a small power filter. I feed mine frozen bloodworms, live black worms, and small pellet food. Sounds like your tank hasn't cycled by the smell. Be sure to remove any uneaten food.

The pictures are in my gallery. So pretty much I am going to have water sitting out all over the house all the time??? I had read somewhere about putting the food in the same place everyday, that would make it easier to remove whats not eaten. However, I am feeding these guys freeze dried bloodworms and they just float all over the dang place and you can't see them hardly at all after a while. What kind of container is would keep these bloodworms in one place underwater?

I can't find them, gallery pics are small anyway, post them on here then we can help..

Why would you have water sitting out all of the time?
