We recently bought some African Dwarf frogs. We bought one for my son's birthday and then went back a few days later and got some more because my other son loved them.
1) We have a tank just for these little guys. We have a small heater, thermometer, little "house" and white rocks. We also put some of those plants...well balls that are supposed to turn into plants on one day...in there. Is that enough?
2) Also, I am feeding them freeze dried blood worms, is that a good choice? Could the blood worms be making the tank stink, we only set it up a few days ago and it already has a unique smell.
3) The first frog we got seemed healthy. We had to get it from Walmart, not something I would normally do, the pet store had theirs quarantined. We went back a few days later we got 2 more and in the craziness of taking 3 kids to Walmart I didn't do an inspection of the frogs. When we got them home we realized that one of them has red spots on its legs which I read is a symptom of a disease. However, they also seemed aggressive the first day I brought them home and were biting each other. I don't think they were fed properly because it was when I fed them that they became aggressive. I have made sure they stay fed and warm in their temporary bowl, since then they have not attacked each other. My question is could this be a wound from the fighting or a disease? They also both appear to be shedding now, the other frog does not have any red spots. I have them in a seperate bowl to keep from contaminating the other frog, but I only got them a few days apart so if this is a disease then he is probably already contaminated. Originally, before we got the seperate frog tank, I put this little frog in with our other fish, which would mean they are now contaminated as well.
4) If this is a disease what can I do about it? Yes I can take them all back, but what about the other fish? Plus I have already gotten attached to my frogs. I read that you have to be careful because treating fish and treating frogs is different since frogs absorb medicine more than fish. What medications do I buy...what do I look for...how do I know if its a disease or bite...how do I know if they don't feel well? I am real new at this obviously.
